Daily Insight: That record you keep play’n is your problem

How many times have you sat in the darkness of an evening hour, maybe with wine glass in hand, and wondered how the heck you were going to make a change. Even if you didn’t believe you had the complete answer, at least through that pinot you got one step.
But when the morning came, you didn’t or couldn’t do it.
Maybe in, or from 😉, that glass of wine you couldn’t even get that one simple step because your thoughts were a haze of confusion and indecision.
The reason you couldn’t figure out or do the thing is because your record is your problem.
You know that song you love to sing to yourself…
"I don't know what to do."
“I’m confused.”
"It's too late."
"I can't afford to."
"What if I fail?"
“Girl that’s crazy. That won’t work!”
"What will everybody think?"
"I'm just not that kind of person."
Round and round it goes. You keep listening to the same old, defeatingly sad song. Same time. Different day.
And here's the I’ll be darned moment about that:
You've listened to that record so many times you don't even realize you're the (crappy) DJ. (You should be fired!!!)
You think you're assessing the situation.
You're not.
You're playing the record.
Sometimes the hardest part of making a change isn't figuring out what to do. It's changing the story you keep telling yourself about why you can't do it.
Because if the record’s title is: I'm stuck, every possibility sounds like a dead end.
If the record’s title is: I'm too old, every opportunity comes with an expiration date.
If the record’s title is: I always do this, well, bless your heart, you've already written the ending.
So tonight, before you ‘pour it out’ and start holding court with your own thoughts, listen closely.
What record are you about to start play’n?
And more importantly...
Is it an empowering one?
Because you might not need a new life.
You might just need to stop playing the same old sad, defeated song.
